Wellington vs. Ludlow Town (October 22nd 2007) Hereford FA "Giantkillers" Cup

 Wellington41Ludlow

Aaron Morgan 3,

Ben Fischer

Wellington got over their recent 6-0 defeat in true fashion in a 4-1 win over Ludlow Town in the Hereford Cup, it was Wellington who opened the scoring, a lovely through ball from Josh James (possibly Hugo Daw?) found its way to Aaron Morgan who smashed home his first of the night, the rest of the first half the score remained 1-0 and saw the away side have lots of chances which were denied by the defence and the hands of Matt Eden in goal.
Wellington dominated the second half and it was Josh Pugh to thank for the second Aaron Morgan goal, a lovely run down the left wing was followed by a cross which lofted neatly to the feet of Aaron Morgan who calmly slotted the ball past the helpless Ludlow Keeper. Aaron Morgan was on the scoresheet once more when a clearance from defender Nick Oliver found its way forward to Aaron Morgan who controlled the ball and ran on to the keeper, whilst one on one with the keeper Aaron kept his cool and hit the ball in to give him his hattrick and Wellys third. The away team made a late rally and were awarded a corner, Ludlows only goal came from the set piece which saw a goalmouth scramble then the ball hit into the back of the net, much to the delight of the travelling Ludlow faithfull. Wellington hit back however 5 minutes later and put the game beyond doubt for the visitors, a free kick from 40 yards out from Ben Fischer was hit into the box and miraculously passed both attackers and defenders to go in the back of the net to make the final score 4-1 to Wellington.

Alvechurch Vs. Wellington Report (October 11th 2007) FA Youth Cup

 Alvechurch60Wellington

Wellingtons hopes of a decent cup run came to a comprehensive end as Wellington youth were thrashed by a strong Alvechurch outfit 6-0. From the kickoff Alvechurch dominated the game and it wasn't long before the first goal was scored, the Alvechurch attacker had the ball in the box and was able to fend off the defences efforts and get round 3 of the Wellington players to tuck the ball past a helpless Matt Eden. Poor defending was to blame for the second goal, a goal mouth scramblr followed and the ball ended up in the back of the net after passing through Edens legs. Wellington made a few attempts to get back on target, an ace ball by Josh Pugh found Pete Wood in the Alvechurch box but Pete was presented with little opportunity and was unable to take advantage of a possible chance. The second half started poorly for the visitors, a defensive mix-up was to blame for Alvechurchs 3rd goal. Alvechurch didn't settle at 3 goals and wanted more, an excellent loft into Wellingtons box was nicely controlled by their number 9 who cooly slotted the ball home past Matt Eden, Alvechurchs next goal was relatively lucky, a clearance from Matt Eden hit a Wellington defender and the ball rolled to an Alvechurch player who was able to capitalise on the chance. With around ten minutes left to play Alvechurch netted in the 6th and final goal of the game, the ball found its way into the Wellington box where it was neatly held up, the player then turned and struck the ball to the right of Matt Eden with a powerful left footed shot. Wellington had few chances in the second half, a few shots were fired wide otherwise the game was Alvechurchs for the taking. Wellingtons Lee Cook was handed a debut for the 2007-2008 season and put in a good performance along the left wing, as for the result, Wellington were taught a footballing lesson and will have to wait till next year whereas Alvechurch will have the pleasure of playing at the ground of Nuneaton Borough.

Wellington Vs. Tividale Report (October 1st 2007) League Cup

 Wellington45Tividale

Jonny Daw 3,

Mike Cheasley

Wellington were knocked out of the mickey mouse league cup in a 9 goal thriller of a game which saw both teams take the lead at various stages and the outcome of the game was pretty uncertain until the final whistle was blown. Tividale started off the stronger team and were quick off the mark, a run down the right wing found an unmarked player who hit the ball powerfully past a helpless Matt Eden to make the score 0-1. Wellington, however, were quick to equalise, an Aaron Morgan cross found Jonny Daw who did well to get a powerful shot in, the ball was parried by the keeper, hit a defender or 2 and somehow found its way to the back of the net. Shortly after Tividale took the lead once again, a cross from the left wing hit the face of a Tividale player and went accross the goal past both Josh Pugh and Matt Eden. The partnership of Aaron Morgan and Jonny Daw was to thank for Wellingtons next goal, another sublime Aaron Morgan cross found Jonny Daw who shot home to make the score 2-2 about ten minutes before half time.
Once again the visitors started the half off strongly, a run down the left wing from the Tividale winger was crossed in low and hard and was tapped in to give the away team the lead, Wellington however fought back and were rewarded with a goal from their efforts, Aaron Morgan was the man to thank once again, a neat cross from Morgan found Mike Cheasley in the box who slotted the ball past the Tividale 'keeper and into the back of the net. At 3-3 both teams still continued to play good football dispite fatigue setting in on many players, Mike Cheasley came close to making in 4-3 for the home side when a Scott Walker lone effort took him past 3 defenders before laying the ball off to Mike, however he struck wide. Moments later Wellington were rewarded with a free kick with around 10 minutes left to play, Josh Pugh struck the ball to perfection which found the head of Jonny Daw and then the back of the net, with Wellington having the lead for the first time in the match they became more casual in their play and because of this Tividale were able to hit in an equaliser shortly before the final whistle. Extra time was to be played and started in the favour of the away side, Tividale upped the pressure and took the lead when a cross couldn't be cleared successfully by the Wellington defence. Wellington were the team who upped the ante in the second half and had wave after wave of attack, they came close to making the score 5-5 when Aaron Morgan was fouled in the box, the resulting penalty kick was taken by Josh Pugh which was unfortunately saved by the hands of the Tividale 'keeper. Wellington are out of the league cup but will be looking for bigger and better things in the FA Youth Cup when they take on Alvechurch who are unbeaten in the Souther Division.

 Wellington32Stourport Swifts

Josh James, Aaron Morgan

Scott Walker

Wellington continued their impressive cup form with a close fought win over Stourport Swifts, Wellington were quick off the mark and were rewarded with their efforts thanks to a goal on the 5th minute,a neat through ball by Jonny Daw found an unmarked Josh James who was able to slot the ball home. The visitors were quick to equalise, Stourport crossed in a ball and were quick to capitalise on a Matt Eden error and headed the ball home to make the score 1-1. The visitors then went one better and took the lead shortly afterwards because of a lucky deflection off the referee which found its way to a Stourport player who hit in a magnificent strike. Scott Walker came close on 2 occasions to equalise in the first half, a lone effort which saw him pass 3 defenders was deflected wide and a lovely shot on the edge of the box just missed the back of the net. Stourport nearly made it 3-1 from a freekick, thankfully Matt Eden was there with a great save to keep the Swifts at bay.
The second half saw the home team dominate and create many chances, 14 minutes into the half a Josh Pugh corner found Scott Read in the middle of the box, he layed the ball off to Aaron Morgan who calmly slotted the ball accross the goal and past the visitors 'keeper. With the score set a 2 a piece Wellington continued to up the pressure, chances came and went including an effort from defender Tim Jones whos Di Canio style volley from a corner struck the woodwork, it was shortly after that Wellington scored the decisive goal, Aaron Morgan made a surging run down the right wing and cut inside to play a ball to Scott Walker on the edge of the box who hit the ball to the right of the helpless Stourport goalkeeper to make the score 3-2 to Wellington, Scott Walker was given a chance to make it 4-2 shortly afterwards, a through ball from Jonny Daw found Scott Walker one on one with the visiting 'keeper, unfortunately Scotts shot was struck wide. Wellington held on for the rest of the half and survived a late Stourport onslaught to progress to the next round in the FA Youth Cup where they will face either Alvechurch or AFC Telford.

Wellington Vs. Nuneaton Griff Report (September 12th 2007) FA Youth Cup

Wellington beat Nuneaton Griff in quite a one sided win which spelt progress in the cup to the first qualifying round at home to Stourport Swifts. The visitors were quick off the mark and dominated most of the first half, Pete Wood made an early run along the right wing and cut inside the box but found his shot dribble just wide of the post, moments later Joe Mohan found an unmarked Scott Walker lurking on the edge of the box, Scotts powerful half volley, however, was struck inches above the top corner. It was on the 33rd minute that the visitors broke the deadlock, Josh James played an excellent ball through to Pete Wood who was one on one with the keeper, Pete kept his composure and finished the ball nicely. Near the end of the first half Wellington were almost able to make in 2-0, a through ball by Scott Walker was latched onto by Mike Cheasly who had only the keeper to beat, unfortunately Nuneatons keeper pulled off a great save and kept the Wellington forward at bay.
The second half started promising for the away side with a chance coming after just five minutes, Aaron Morgan found himself one on one with the keeper, and in a similar fashion to Michael Cheasly, had his shot saved, the ball rolled out to Michael Cheasly who was unable to capitalise on the rebound. Mike Cheasly had another chance to score for the away side, another sweet through ball from Scott Walker was run onto by Mike Cheasly, who struck inches wide of the goal. Wellington sealed the win towards the end of the second half with a decisive goal, Josh James was again the assister, he played a lovely lofted ball forward to Pete Wood who controlled the ball with great skill and casually slotted home with his left foot, the keeper unable to reach the ball. Wellington will take this game into account when they play Bromyard next week at home and hopefully record an easy victory and possibly a goal or 2 for Mike!
