The game proved to be good for debutants Josh Pugh and John Herdeshee who both netted their first goals for the under 18's squad and showed commendable performances, the home side could have made it 6-0 if it wasn't for some questionable decision making by the assistant shoeless referee.
The account was opened in the first half for the home team, a powerful shot by Chris Palmer looked to be going well wide but took a wicked deflection and saw his effort wrong foot the Hinton goalkeeper and end up in the back of the net. The second goal came towards the end of the first half from Mike Cheasly with a towering header from a cross by Josh Pugh who had his first attempt blocked by a corner.
The second half was once again completely dominated by Wellington, any attempts of an attack by Hinton were gridlocked thanks to the pairing of Tim Jones and Chris Palmer who both put in an outstanding performance at the back, goalkeeper Matt Eden was left relatively unchallenged in goal and rarely got a touch of the ball. The third goal was thanks to a combination of skill and targeting by Josh James, Scott Walker found Josh James in space who managed to wiggle his way past the Hinton full back and swing in a left footed cross to reach the head of Scott Walker which found the back of the net, 3-0.
More good work by Scott Walker in the middle of the park saw him find Josh Pugh out on the left wing, Josh cut in side and powered a left footed shot past the helpless 'keeper to score a fabulous goal on his Wellington FC debut. To wrap things up for the home side and to complete the 5-0 win, more good work by Scott Walker on the edge of the box found John Herdeshee in space who then casually slotted home to finish things off for the home team and continue the impressive pre-season form.
